Policy Statement: Multiple Unit Membership
(Introduced by Board of Directors, October 11, 1997)
(Approved by Board of Directors, March 13, 1998)

Basic Statement: Some members choose to affiliate with several BCHC units for one reason or another. This policy is to clarify several issues:

Definitions
PARENT BCHC Membership Types are termed: Individual, Family (Shared), Benefactor, Patron, and Mt. Whitney. A PARENT membership is affiliated with a single Local Unit, or it may be non-affiliated as a Membership At Large. BCHC members may hold more than one active PARENT membership.

In an effort to avoid or minimize such duplication problems as may arise involving mailings, voting rights and Local Unit Census audits, this policy defines, establishes and implements an alternative to multiple active PARENT memberships, hereinafter referred to as Associate Membership.

Associate Memberships are only available to persons already holding PARENT BCHC membership. Non-members joining BCHC may not elect Associate Membership until after having registered as one of the PARENT membership types, and having selected Local Unit affiliation.

Members desiring further affiliation with another Local Unit (other Local Units) may apply for Associate Membership within that Unit (those Units). There will be no limitation as to number of Associate Memberships which may be held by any PARENT Membership in good standing. Associate Memberships may be initiated/renewed at time of Parent membership application or renewal. Associate memberships may also be initiated at any time during the term of the Parent membership, but unlike Parent memberships, which are of 1-year duration, Associate memberships must expire concurrently with the Parent membership, and are renewable only upon renewal of the Parent membership.

Associate memberships are available to all memberships, as follows:

Eligibility
Members in good standing maintaining Individual, Family (Shared), Benefactor, Patron, or Mt. Whitney memberships within any BCHC Local Unit are eligible to apply for and hold Associate Membership within other Local Units. At Large Members are also eligible to hold Associate Memberships.

Participation in BCHC State and Local Unit Events/Activities
Participation in BCHC State Organization events is extended to all Parent memberships in good standing. Members holding Associate Memberships will participate based upon their Parent membership only.

Associate membership participation in BCHC Local Unit activities will be the same as for the Local Unit's Parent memberships, with the possible exception of Voting Privileges, as noted below.

Voting Privileges
Associate memberships hold no voting privileges in BCHC State Organization matters; those holding Associate memberships may vote on the basis of their Parent membership only.

Each BCHC Local Unit will determine at its own discretion the voting rights of its Associate memberships within Local Unit affairs.

Dues & Dues Distribution
Dues for each Associate membership held by any member will be equal to the amount of the Local Unit Rebate for an Individual type membership (not including BCHA surcharge) PLUS $5.00. Unlike the distribution of Individual type membership dues (50% to the State Organization, and 50% to the Local Unit), distribution of dues for Associate type memberships will be $5.00 to the State Organization, and balance to the Local Unit.

Insurance
BCHC State insurance coverage extends only to Individual, Family (Shared), Patron, Benefactor and Mt. Whitney memberships. Associate memberships are excluded in insurance matters, since those parties are already covered under their Parent membership.

Membership Rosters
All State Alpha Rosters will include all memberships, including Associate memberships except those Rosters which are prepared for insurance or voting purposes. Local Unit Rosters will include each respective Associate memberships.
